Communications/Public Policy Intern, The Arc Minnesota, St. Paul, Minn.

Job Description:
PRIMARY ROLE:
The Communications/Public Policy Intern will work with the Director of Communications and the Senior Policy Director. Minimum 12 hours per week, up to 20 hours possible. There is some level of flexibility beyond that for stretch projects based on the individual’s fit and needs. We accept applicants who are interested in interning with us either during summer or during fall term (or both).

Responsibilities:
Core tasks:

  • Informing Our Advocates and the Public
    • Media relations (writing press materials, contacting media, assisting at media events)
    • Newsletter, printed, and e-communications (writing articles, proofing articles)
    • Social media (original posts on Facebook on public policy, The Arc Minnesota’s other activities, and disability-related information; monitoring comments and conversations on Facebook; Twitter; uploading posts on public policy blog; monitoring comments on blog; analyzing data from any of our social media platforms)
    • Website (uploading items, updating content, analyzing data)
    • Newsletter articles for Master Pooled Trust newsletter
    • Videotaping short presentations on public policy issues for our YouTube site
    • Take a leading role in moving us to a new e-mail data base system
  • Supporting Successful Grassroots Public Policy Advocacy
    • Assist with planning and conducting grassroots activities to build support for public policies that will be promoted during the 2016 legislative session.
    • Organize, train and prepare members of The Arc Minnesota to be able to effectively promote our public policy priorities.
  • Making Events Successful
    • Writing content for awards program
    • Writing, proofing conference publicity materials
    • Helping with planning and logistics for state conference, public policy events
    • Follow up with conference sponsors and exhibitors
  • Making the Office Run Smoothly
    • Answering phones/receptionist duties, word processing, mailings, data entry, list management, e-mails, internet research, and other duties as assigned.

Stretch projects:
Based on your personal development needs and fit, you may work on some of the following projects. We want you to tailor the internship experience so you can grow with us

  • Manage the marketing and implementation of an online training program for people with disabilities and their families (report to the Executive Director)
  • Create videos to promote the organization to people with disabilities and the wider audience
  • Review and make recommendations for establishing a Citizens’ Academy similar to other advocacy organizations (e.g., Brain Injury Alliance of Minnesota’s program)

New Horizons Shelter and Outreach Centers, Inc

Our shelter and one of our Outreach buildings is located La Crosse, WI, but we also have an Outreach Office located in Whitehall, WI that covers Trempealeau County. I am looking for interns that would be available a minimum of one 4 hour day a week in the time range of Monday – Thursday 9am – 4pm at this location.

In the Whitehall location there are 2 full-time staff persons, a domestic violence advocate and a sexual assault advocate. These two staff persons provide a multitude of advocacy services such as, resources, legal, crisis line, court support, supportive listening, support group, children’s advocacy. Our Hispanic client population is growing so it would also be very beneficial if they could converse in Spanish, it is not a must, but very helpful.

Marketing Financial Analyst Intern, Greater Twin Cities United Way

United Way is seeking a talented individual who has received their bachelor’s degree and pursuing graduate work in the Finance/Mathematics field. This is a paid internship for approximately 24 hours per week for 15 weeks.

Experience you will gain:
The Financial Analyst intern will help define and quantify the business case for United Way relating to expanding its direct to donor engagement through all channels. This will involve analyzing our current donor performance, sizing the potential market, synthesizing and quantifying external research and market data, defining a future revenue scenario and completing sensitivity analyses for key inputs. The intern will also assist in the development of a marketing dashboard and ROI measurement framework for direct to donor marketing activities. This internship will report to the VP of Marketing and VP of IT.

At the closing of this internship, you will have completed the following to add to your resume:

  • Analysis and reporting of current donor performance and behavior (frequency, monetary value, churn, retention, etc.)
  • Definition of current donor mix within the workplace channel (parameters to be defined)
  • Sizing of the market for donor direct developments
  • Creation of the business case and financial model for 2017 donor direct strategy
  • Competitive review and analysis (relative to donor mix and key financials like size of gift, number of active donors, etc.)
  • Sensitivity analyses for key inputs of the 2017 business case/financial model
  • Quantification of the investments; development of a cost model for the donor direct activities (now and through 2017)
  • Development of an ROI measurement framework for current and future marketing investments

Specifications:

  • B.S. degree in finance, mathematics or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • A minimum 2-3 years of experience in financial analysis with proven ability to create and defend a strategic business case
  • Strong analytic reasoning and financial modeling skills, with ability to interpret data and apply it to defined business problems

Our mission is to provide safety and services to those that have / are experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and / or harassment in an open-minded, non-judgmental, and empowering atmosphere.

Our Trempealeau county office is located in Whitehall Wisconsin with one full-time domestic violence advocate and one full-time sexual assault advocate. These two staff persons provide a wide range of services, direct and in-direct for the entire Trempealeau County. There is a continually increasing population of Spanish speaking clients that we serve at this location and we are in need of volunteers / interns that can translate Spanish well. Sales Internships

OVERVIEW:
Sales Interns will work primarily on selling sponsorship advertising, promotions and tickets throughout the area. Working 20-25 hours a week to contact local businesses, youth groups and other organizations to enhance sales. All interns also participate at home games and events working with the operations staff and promoting the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Coordinator/Intern, TEAM HOWELL MMA CENTER, Winona, Minn.

Job Summary:

The Intern will assume administrative roles similar to those of an assistant manager level position. This position will allow for the intern to develop management skills in the areas of: programming, marketing, facility operations, personnel management, and financial management. The intern will focus on the general operations of the facility with a special emphasis on program development. In additions to these activities the intern will work with their Supervisor on adapting the facility to the changing target markets and client’s needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Programming:

* Assist the supervisor with researching, planning, implementing, financial forecasting, and scheduling of programs. The intern will need to develop a fitness program due on the First and Fifteenth day of every month.
* Create and upload weekly YouTube videos demonstrating an exercise or martial arts technique with a link posted to the facility website.
* Complete an evaluation form for programs intern develops over the course of their employment.
* Assist supervisor with instruction of programs offered.
* Attend daily meetings with supervisor discussing the pertinent information regarding operations and clients and/or changes with standards and practices.

Marketing:

* Acquire skills to be proficient in designing and creating publicity with designated software and networking sites such as Facebook.com.
* Utilize the facility website and software to design and implement changes to the website with programs designed by intern, events such as a Mixed Martial Arts fight, and overall website development.
* Design and distribute publicity for upcoming events and programs (i.e. brochures, posters, press releases, etc.)
* Update website to promote programs and events.
* Learn the procedures for marketing large events and coordinating with sponsors.
* Develop YouTube videos with links on the facility webpage to move the facility up in Google’s rankings.

Facility Operations and Maintenance:

* Follow proper staff procedures, record keeping, for the daily function of the facility.
* Fill out order forms, stock new equipment, file taxable information, and coordinate proper supplies for the facility.
* Evaluate equipment and facility daily to make sure they are up to the standard of care.
* Perform general cleaning of equipment to maintain the sanitary standard of care for the facility.
* Participate in an orientation with an overview of facility procedures, intern’s responsibilities, and review of facilities customer service procedures.
* Conduct safety inspections of equipment and the facility for any hidden hazardous conditions.

Financial Management:

* Learn budgetary and financial policies through assisting with some of the budgetary process.
* Assist supervisor with determining budget for programs and events.
* Collect fees and account for fees.

Personnel Management:

* Assist in the hiring/staffing of developed programs and events
* Coordinate training of new staff and volunteers for events.
* Document and organize documentation of accidents, injuries, complaints, and incidents.

Qualifications:

Student Internship, Behrens Manufacturing Company, Winona, MN

Product lines: Galvanized metal containers and other metal products

This position would work in trade or industry marketing.   The student in this position would work with customers, help resolve pricing issues, help with new product setup among other misc. duties.  The preferred student for this position would likely be a junior marketing or entrepreneurship major so they can continue to contribute to Behrens for more than one semester.  This student should have strong computer and communication skills.

Assistant Behavior Support Specialist, Riverfront, Inc., LaCrosse, WI

Purpose of the Position: Assist Behavior Support Specialist with assessments and plan development. A literature review of positive behavior support will also be required for group discussion.

Qualifications:

  • Desire to work with adults with disabilities
  • Flexibility in scheduling
  • Good verbal and listening communication skills
  • Willingness to receive specialized training as needed
  • Basic understanding of Human Development and Basic Behavioral Principles
  • Letter of Recommendation from your academic advisor or a tenured professor.

Location for Activity:  Riverfront and various community locations

Days and Hours: Mornings/afternoons/evenings, Monday-Friday Year-long commitment preferred; 2-3 credit hours a semester

Job Functions: 

  • Applied work with the Behavior Specialist to perform functional behavior assessments and motivational assessments of persons with difficult behavior.
  • Work with Behavior Specialist to develop intervention strategies for persons with difficult behavior.
  • Communicate with team members to assess information pertaining to behavioral issues.
  • Literature review of information regarding positive behavior support.

Physical/Sensory/Cognitive Requirements:

  • Time will be spent in Day Services and with Production Plant Participants in achieving their goals. Mobility within Riverfront or the community is required. There is an occasional need for pushing/pulling wheelchairs for adults of various sizes. Ability to present information and respond to questions from participants, staff and the general public in fact-to-face interactions is needed.
  • Bending and walking and use of fine motor skills is required regularly as is the utilization of hearing and vision with the ability to collaborate and orchestrate in a variety of environments.
  • The capacity to differentiate between various levels of confidentiality and act accordingly is necessary.
